There is something magical about a magnificent tulle skirt isn't there? How can a piece of netting evoke so many wishful thoughts? The wish to be a prima ballerina (a la Margot Fonteyn); the wish to delicately prance around en pointe; the wish to be graceful and beautiful; serene, heavenly and divine all at once. The purity of it; the grandeur ... Dior ballgowns, long white gloves, sparkly tiaras and High Society.

This is how I feel about roses. I'm not some sort of crank, but I do fall in love with roses as easily as that tutu I first ever set eyes on, and my first ever pair of perfect pink satin ballet slippers I had when I was a little girl...

Rewind a sentence or two ... not all roses mind you. I have an endering love for big willowy, bloomy, old fashioned varieties with a scent to die for. I love Avalanche, sweet or otherwise. I could eat the delicious and almost edible lilac Boyfriend Rose and I adore the creamy pink tones of Majolica...

Above: these peonies have managed to sneak their way in!
Roses and tulle are a marriage made in heaven. If I were a rose entwined in vintage soft off white tulle, I would be perfection personified.

I will, in my crusade for all things gorgeous; include generous helpings of French vintage tulle (purchased in Nice) around my bespoke bouquets for super special occasions and weddings. As I sit here floating off to the sound of the Nutcracker, I wonder if am I alone in this dreamy world of prima ballerinas, ballet pink and vintage roses .... and I think not!
